When Heat Kills: Global Warming As Public Health Threat

Global Warming has often been portrayed as an Environmental issue, about how many animals are losing their habitats and starting to die off. With an effect like that, one should take Global Warming seriously, but alas it still i'snt given the response that Environmentalists keep pushing for. Taking notice of that, there has been talk of changing the slogan. More people are more effected if the issue affects not only themselves and their family, but also every innocent human on the planet. For lack of a better word, Marketing the Global Warming issue as a health concern rather than an environmental issue, gets much better feedback.
Its not just a matter of marketing a concern either, the health risks are very much there. With all the climate changes taking place, there are a ton of major health concerns that go along with them, heat waves are just one aspect of it. Recent heatwaves have caused many excess deaths globally. Not only that, but with the heat comes many other complications, such as an increase and smog, infectious diseases outreach, and more deadly storms! With all that happening, we should take more interest in this issue, which is why it is being marketed more toward the average everyday person.

  1. Global warming is a huge issue that is getting worse and worse. At this point, global warming can only be slowed. We as a society are too advanced to not produce greenhouse gases. With our technology continuing to get more advanced, we can make chemical processes more efficient and use less fuel to help save the environment. The health costs of global warming are big. Some places are becoming very dry from the heat and they can’t produce crops. Some people rely solely on their crops to be fed. This is a huge concern for hundreds of millions, if not billions of people.

  2. Personally, most of my concern about global warming is about the future. I think a lot of the weather concerns mentioned can occur more frequently due to climate change, but disasters do happen - they always have and always will. I think Will is right in saying that all we can do is slow down the progression of global warming, but a lot of Westerns simply aren't concerned enough to do anything about it. "What does it matter if I drive a Prius or an Escalade?" seems to be a pretty common thought amongst my peers. The same kind of mentality that goes through all to many voters - what does my single decision matter in the grand scheme of things? I'm just one of billions.

  3. I do not think it is the best strategy to try to scare people or threaten people's health in order to persuade them to believe in the Global Warming phenomenon. I think what is important is that people recognize the effects of higher temperatures world wide and what health issues that implies. Global Warming shouldn't be the reason why people start to practice good health. There are many other factors concerning the human health and Global Warming is just one of many.

  4. People are not educated in exactly what global warming is. As a result many people don't even believe in the existence of global warming. Marketing is an issue, the marketing should be more of an educational campaign instead of a scare campaign. Trying to scare people into understanding the risks of destroying the environment will only make the skeptics more skeptical and enrage the enthusiasts that are trying to combat global warming. Most technology companies have already jumped onto the green effort. Explanations of what global warming is and simple ways for people to help would be much more effective than showing depressing videos of polar bears searching for their den.
